I would like to test for the interaction effect of 2 independent categorical variables on 1 dependent continuous variable using SPSS. Unfortunately, I do not have equal sample sizes; the residuals are not normally distributed; Levene's test is significant too. What test can I use? I have run an ANOVA and it shows very interesting results.

Factorial ANOVA. Factorial studies are becoming increasingly more common in psychology as the interactive nature of independent variables becomes more obvious. SPSS for Windows is capable of analyzing many different factorial designs. We will cover the most common designs in this unit. I have run an ANOVA and it shows very interesting results. Note that SPSS mentions “Measures of Association” rather than “effect size”. It could be argued that these are interchangeable but it's somewhat inconsistent anyway. Eta Squared for One-Way ANOVA - Option 2. Perhaps the best way to run ANOVA in SPSS is from the univariate GLM dialog. A factorial ANOVA answers the question to which brand are customers more loyal – stars, cash cows, dogs, or question marks?
In Factorial ANOVA, an F-statistic is calculated by dividing the variance of the group means by the mean of the within group variances. A one-way ANOVA is used to determine whether or not different levels of an explanatory variable lead to statistically different results in some response variable.. For example, we might be interested in understanding whether or not three levels of education (Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree) lead to statistically different annual incomes.

In this section, we show you the main tables required to understand your results from the two-way ANOVA, including descriptives, between-subjects effects, Tukey post hoc tests (multiple comparisons), a plot of the results, and how to write up these results. Calculating a Factorial ANOVA Factorial ANOVA works by using the F-distribution, which is an asymmetric distribution. The F-distribution is related to Chi-Square.
